Creating a CNAME record for each of the domain names or subdomains you have within a hosting account will enable you to direct it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded Internet domain will lose all its records - A, MX and so forth, and will take the records of the domain name it's being pointed to. In this light, you simply can't set up a CNAME record to point your domain to a third-party company and keep a functional email service with the first hosting provider. It is also essential to know that a CNAME record is always a string of words and not a number as it is often wrongly identified as the A record of the domain name being redirected. One of the main uses of a CNAME record is to forward a domain which you own through one provider to the servers of some other provider when you have created a website with the latter. That way, the website will appear under your own domain name, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party provider.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting plan through our company and you want to set up a CNAME record, it will take you a few clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted within your account from the Hepsia CP that comes with each and every plan and adding a new record is as basic as clicking on a button, choosing the type, which will be CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the change. If you have never added such a record before, you will discover a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can simply contact us and we will aid you with this task. If you have set up an Internet site via another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different company, for example Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a few clicks in your Control Panel.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every single one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will enable you to create a CNAME record easily. If you want to create a private URL for your e-mails, to redirect a domain name to a subdomain within the account or to forward a domain to another provider and use some third-party service that they provide, it will not take you more than three mouse clicks to create such a record. All DNS records for the domains and subdomains hosted in the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the CP, so once you are there, all you will have to do will be to choose the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then input the actual record text. For your benefit, you can see a short video within the CP regarding how to create a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, that is available in the DNS records section.
