Transferring an active domain entails switching the company that handles the domain name registration service, so after the transfer itself, you will have to manage things like renewal payments or DNS record modifications through the new company. The transfer procedure itself is standard with most generic and country-code domain name extensions. Certain country-code extensions are more specific and involve different steps, but in the general case transferring a domain name involves a few necessary procedures and one of them is unlocking the domain name. The domain lock is a security option, which is being adopted by more and more domain name registry organizations. It is a standard feature supported by all generic TLDs. If a domain is locked, it will not be possible to initiate a transfer process, so nobody can even attempt to register your domain name. The lock can be annulled only through the account where the domain name is registered and all new domains that support this option are locked by default the moment they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Cloud Hosting

The Hepsia Control Panel, which is included with each and every cloud hosting package that we offer, will give you total command over your domain names. You’ll find all domain names registered through us neatly displayed in alphabetical order in a separate Control Panel section. Those whose extensions support the registrar lock option will have a small padlock icon next to them. By clicking the icon, you can see if the given domain name is locked or unlocked and you can update the current status by clicking again – the procedure is as simple as that. You will not need to wait for the update to propagate or for our company to do anything, as the change of the status takes effect momentarily, even if you notice something different on WHOIS lookup sites. After all, it takes time for such sites to ‘refresh’ the info that they show.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Servers

In case you have registered a domain through us and you would like to transfer it away, you can quickly unlock it via the exact same Hepsia Control Panel, which you use to administer your semi-dedicated server account. All domain name registrations will be shown alphabetically in your account and you will notice a small padlock-like icon on the right side of each domain name there, as long as its extension supports the registrar lock option. You can see whether the domain is locked or not by clicking on this icon and modify the current status by clicking on it once again. You can then proceed and start the transfer process straight away without having to wait for the status to change on WHOIS lookup sites, as the change will take effect momentarily without you or us having to do anything else.
